Make an impact

that will change women’s lives.

100% of your tax-deductible donation will go directly to helping women in need, funding 4-year college scholarships (for nursing majors) & family hardship grants.

We fully fund every 4-year scholarship at $5K per year (a total of $20K awarded to each recipient), setting them off onto a path of success they never would have achieved if not for Betty (and you).

Why give?

  • 100% of your donation goes directly to women in need, never to cover any foundational overhead costs (which are all covered by the board).

  • As a registered 501-3(C) non-profit organization, every dollar you donate is 100% tax-deductible. You will receive a tax receipt after donation.

  • All of our recipients are vetted by our board, and by the university they attend, to ensure our scholarships only get to those in need.

 FAQs

  • As a lifelong nurse serving the homeless in New York City, a devout Catholic, and a friend of the Franciscan University at Steubenville, Betty enabled and advocated for the success of students - especially women - that were unable to make ends meet. Ultimately, helping them to achieve dreams they never thought financially possible.

The foundation exists to further Betty’s mission of enabling the livelihood and careers of women and families in need, through Scholarships (for nursing students), Grants (for families in dire need), and Mentorship (for women early in their career journeys).

  • There are two types of economic aid provided by the foundation:

    1) Academic Scholarships: We fund 4-year, $5,000-per-year scholarships for nursing students. These students are young women who have the passion and academic excellence to succeed, but have an insurmountable financial gap holding them back (often due to family circumstances).

    2) Economic Hardship Grants: Considered for women (and their family) that have a dire, immediate, and specific need that is preventing them from overcoming the challenge(s) life has set in front of them. All aspects of their personal, family, and economic situations are considered to ensure the dollars are used well, and provide maximum impact.

  • We have several criteria we look for to ensure longevity and significance of impact for our scholarships:

    • Young women entering their freshman year of college, enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student

    • Minimum weighted high school GPA of 2.75

    • Committed to a Nursing program at their college or university

    • Insurmountable & verifiable financial gap after all other financial aid + family support

    • To receive the $5K each year, students must: 1) Remain nursing majors, 2) Remain in good academic standing

  • There are several key steps and criteria to apply for a scholarship:

    • Completion and submission (to your financial aid office) of the FAFSA

    • Submission of the foundation’s Scholarship Application form (available via your financial aid office, or submit a request on our ‘Contact Us’ page.

    • Submission of a 1-page essay explaining your story, why you want to be a nurse, and how this scholarship will benefit you

  • If you are experiencing an immediate and specific hardship gap, please reach out to us via the ‘Contact Us’ page.

From there, you will need to complete an application that details:

    • The hardship and clear economic gap it has created

    • Specific monetary or material needs to overcome the gap (i.e. exactly how the grant would be spent)

    • Economic details that dimensionalize your economic situation & ensure we stay compliant with 501-3(C) requirements
